 NOTE FROM RACHEL

true north What were you like when you were a child? Were you curious, fearless, eager to learn? At Girlstart, we're all just kids at heart, and we know there are plenty of grown-ups who still have lots of questions related to math, science and technology. So we've decided to bring our signature fun and engaging approach to learning to women who want to know everything from how to blog to growing personal wealth. Learning is rewarding and enriching at any age, and with our "Lunch and Learn" workshop series, we'll help empower you to tackle those big questions.

And for the girl in your life, there are a few spots left in our August summer camps for girls. Our "Surfin' Safari" junior camp is designed specifically for girls entering 4th and 5th grades. Get on board now before it's full!

Also, don't miss the chance to bring your entire family to the Austin Children's Museum on Sunday, Aug. 10 as Girlstart hosts Science Sunday. The museum is free on Sundays from 4-5 p.m. and Girlstart will be there to demonstrate fun experiments and guide activities.

   VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

Guest Speakers Impact Girlstart Campers
We have had an incredible lineup of guest speakers at summer camp! Each week, professional women come to speak to our campers on topics that coincide with the theme for that week. Topics have ranged from the chemistry of concrete (where girls got to make their own concrete coasters) to dermatology (where girls got to look at sun damage on their skin) to meteorology (where girls got to tour a Storm Cruiser!). The response to these speakers has been overwhelmingly positive, and Girlstart is so thankful to these women for generously sharing their expertise!

Visit our volunteer page to see how you can get more involved with Girlstart!

 DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know that the spotted hyena communicates with others using a series of calls, some of which are too high for humans to hear? Girls will learn this and discover why animals adapt to their environments during Girlstart’s Surfin’ Safari summer camp. Spaces are still available, register at: http://www.girlstartcamp.org/.
