Happy New Year, everyone!

At Girlstart we absolutely love celebrating the coming of the new year. It's a time for all of us to reflect on the amazing accomplishments and highlights of 2007 while blazing an exciting new trail for 2008! This month I'd like to tell you about a great opportunity for girls to jump right in to 2008 in a powerful, fun and educational way. Girlstart will host Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) on March 29th and I simply can't encourage you enough to check it out for the benefit of the 6th to 8th grade girls in your life. Registration will open January 7th and the cost is only $25 per girl. Space is extremely limited and expected to fill up fast, so register while there's still space. Girls will have a chance to do fun, hands-on workshops with professional women who will give them the low down on what's happening in the worlds of math, science, engineering and technology. It's especially fun for girls who come with their friends, so group registrations are not only accepted, but encouraged. So help the girl in your life start a dream or continue her journey in the new year. And don't forget... registration for our super-cool Summer Camps are also beginning in January. Here's to a year of success, fun, exploration and joy in 2008!

 GIRLSTART EVENTS AND NEWS

Girlstart Community Camp

Community Camp 2007
Girlstart recently held its first-ever FREE community Science Extravaganza Event at the Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders on December 1st. Girlstart’s Science Extravaganza included hands-on activities for the entire family! Over 450 parents and children created roller coasters, explored the solar system, learned the secrets to a winning science fair project, identified their favorite constellations in Girlstart’s very own planetarium, and more! Girlstart’s StarLab planetarium was the highlight of the event; families were piling in to discover more about the constellations in the sky. To learn more about Girlstart’s upcoming programs and our next community event please visit www.girlstart.org.

Girlstart Saturday Camp Registration is OPEN!!!
Don't miss out on the fun at Girlstart's spring Saturday camps! Parents and daughters at Girlstart’s recent E-Holiday Saturday camp looked at crystals under digital microscopes and took home materials to make their very own crystal design to show off to their family and friends. One parent stated; “The best thing about Saturday Camp was the opportunity to spend time with my daughter in a learning activity.” Girlstart provides a supportive and hands-on atmosphere for girls to experiment with forensic science, robots, e-cards, and more! FREE Saturday camps are held on-site at the Girlstart Tech Center in Austin. For more information and the complete camp lineup, visit www.girlstart.org/saturday.asp.
