Summer Camp!

We have some really exciting news this month! Summer's here! The flamingos have landed, and it's time for summer camp! Girlstart has had a remarkable response this year – selling out in May and registering over 30 more girls then ever before! We do, however, still have a limited number of scholarship slots available for lower-income students who want to participate in camp. If you're interested, or know someone who might be, please check out the scholarship info here.

Austin's not the only place we're drumming up excitement this summer – we're pleased to announce that for the first time ever, we're taking our show on the road to San Antonio! We're partnering with Our Lady of the Lake University to host a special edition of CSI Girlstart Investigates Camp– and that session is already full! We're also doing a week-long Summer Academy for high school girls using the curriculum we developed for the Project IT Girl summer session here in Austin. We're thrilled to be in San Antonio, and are grateful to the Texas Education Agency, The Texas Regional Collaboratives, and Our Lady of the Lake University for working with us to make it happen!

As if that weren't enough, we are pleased to announce that Girlstart is turning 10 this year! Our blowout 10th Anniversary celebration will be held on Sept. 6 at the METV Headquarters at 2130 South Congress. Tickets for the event are $75 a person, and promise to go quickly! We'll also have a raffle with some amazing prizes, including the chance for you and some of your best friends to spend a week on a yacht, with your very own captain to help steer you through the warm blue waters of the Caribbean! More information about our 10th Anniversary Celebration will be coming later this month!

Have a good month, everyone! Remember to wear your sunscreen!

 VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

Applied Materials Volunteers Many thanks to a special group of Synopsys employees who spent a Friday afternoon weeding, raking, planting, and truly transforming the Girlstart backyard! These enthusiastic volunteers even created a Dream Garden where summer campers will be able to place a rock that they have designed to represent their dreams and future aspirations. Girlstart appreciates Synopsys for making the Girlstart Summer Camp experience even better!

Check out our summer volunteer opportunities online! From designing scrapbook pages to helping us keep our backyard watered and beautiful, there is a place for you! And don't miss out on additional volunteer updates: contact Sarah Haegelin if you would like to receive the quarterly Volunteer Newsletter!
