 NOTE FROM RACHEL

It may only be April, but it's never too early to start thinking about summer at Girlstart!

We've got an exciting selection of summer camps this year, and we're filling up fast, with about half the spots taken since we opened registration just a few weeks ago. This year, summer campers can choose to solve mysteries in the Girlstart crime scene lab, deliver the news as anchorwomen and camera operators, trek out on adventurous animal safaris, and get magical like Hermione Granger with science secrets! To get on board before it's too late, sign up here.

If summer still seems far away, we're bringing summer theme park fun to Girlstart next month! The Physics Circus Saturday Camp (taking place on May 5) will show girls and their parents how to build roller coasters to learn about velocity! To sign up for this camp – the last one of the school year – click here.

We'd also like to thank everyone who helped make the recent Expanding Your Horizons event a success! Close to 300 girls from around Central Texas got to meet and talk to amazing women who use math, science, and technology in their day-to-day jobs – and the experiments and presentations were completely amazing! Fox 7 and Applied Materials were wonderful sponsors, and we hope girls are inspired to take the next step toward fun careers in math, science and technology fields – like our 61 IT Girls, who are now off and running in the IT Girl program, preparing to make their marks!

 VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

Applied Materials VolunteersApril is Volunteer Appreciation Month
Thank you to all our volunteers! We appreciate everyone who helps make Girlstart the BEST place for empowering girls in math and science!

Girlstart would like to highlight a special group from Applied Materials who helped us make Expanding your Horizons 2007 such a huge success! Their extensive role in this event included hours of planning and executing the many logistical details for EYH, the recruitment of volunteers and workshop leaders, and a huge, helpful presence on the day of the event. Girlstart truly appreciates their energy, enthusiasm, and commitment to encouraging even more girls to pursue careers in math, science, engineering and technology!

If you want to get involved as a Girlstart volunteer, email Sarah or check out the volunteer page on our website.
