 NOTE FROM RACHEL

It's February at Girlstart, and that means love is in the air -- a love of math, science, and technology, that is! We've got a lot of exciting programs over the next few months to tell you about!

Our free Saturday camps are going strong, and our next one, Tech Girl, is scheduled for February 17th. Girls participating in this camp get to learn advanced HTML, and they get to make their own digital music on the computer as well! To sign up for the camp, register online on the Girlstart website.

We're also proud to be hosting this year's Expanding Your Horizons workshop at UT-Austin on March 24. Sixth, seventh, and eighth grade girls from across Central Texas can learn how to get started in life-changing careers through fun hands-on workshops led by women scientists, engineers, and mathematicians. You can sign up online for this amazing program at eyhaustin.org.

Finally, if you know any high school sophomores who have a love for math, science and technology, please spread the news to them about Project IT Girl! As you may have heard, Project IT Girl is a new three-year program we're doing with National Science Foundation support, which will help girls get a jump on information technology careers. Only 60 girls can join, and it includes free camps, a paid internship, and so much more! The deadline's fast approaching – visit the IT Girl page on our site ( http://www.girlstart.org /itgirl/) for more information!

 VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

Expanding Your Horizons Workshop Volunteers
Would you like to make a huge impact on the life of a middle school girl? Volunteer as a workshop leader for Expanding Your Horizons!

Expanding Your Horizons (EYH), held on March 24th at the University of Texas, is a fun-filled day that provides 6-8th grade girls with the opportunity to participate in hands-on workshops led by professional women who have careers in math, science and technology fields. This is Girlstart's second year to host this national program here in Austin, and we have an exciting lineup of workshop tracks available for the girls to choose from – everything from Girl, MD to Career Girl! But we need YOUR help filling each track with interesting, interactive workshops.

If you would like to find out more about how you can get involved, check out the EYH website at www.eyhaustin.org then contact Sarah Haegelin at sarah@girlstart.org or call her at (512) 916-4775 for more information. This is your chance to show a young girl how she too can expand her horizons!
