During the 2008 – 2009 school year, the Project IT Girl participants will focus on creating online portfolio websites to showcase their accomplishments.
The girls will use programming languages such as HTML and CSS to create their own website layout and design. Each portfolio site will feature the IT Girls' professional resume, artistic endeavors ranging from studio art to graphic design to multimedia montages. The girls will use their portfolio sites to tell a cohesive and comprehensive story of their personal journies, highlighting their unique skill sets and interests.
The IT Girls will each create their own logo for use on their portfolio websites. Each girl will also work on her professional resume by using the resume writing skills learned through our IT Girl leaders and mentors.
The IT Girls will also work on the extensive college application process and learn about campus life.
During the 2nd half of the final year, the IT Girls will will participate in a semester long internship program with a prominent technology company gaining valuable hands-on experience to add to their resumes.
During the 2008-2009 year, each IT Girl will :
- Learn how to get the most out of her college experience
- Research majors of interest and specific specializations and programs
- Learn how to connect college studies to future paths by exploring Graduate programs
- Learn how to market themselves by learning vital resume and interviewing skills
- Develop a relationship with an assigned mentor in the career field of their choice
- Work on college applications and essays to the colleges of their choice
- Produce a professional portfolio website showcasing all of their unique accomplishments
- Gain hands on experience with a semester-long technology internship.
