The Project IT Girl Summer Academy was held at Texas State Technical College (TSTC) in Sweetwater, Texas in July/August 2008. Sixty girls from the Austin area enrolled in Project IT Girl used their expertise as video game developers to examine gender equity in gaming and computer science.
The IT Girls explored the power of blogging and other entertainment technology to effect social change. Participants planned and produced a virtual global awareness event in Teen Second Life. During the Summer Academy, the girls developed vital technical skills and learned project management and communication skills essential to their future careers.
