Tamara Hudgins

Tamara Hudgins Executive Director

Tamara's professional background is in nonprofit management and development. She has managed and raised support for educational organizations, and was executive director of a community foundation serving Williamson County, Texas before joining Girlstart. Before her move to Texas in late 2005, Tamara was executive director of a nonprofit that served more than 11,000 Chicago teachers and children every week.

Kristi Anderson After School Coordinator

Ms. Anderson received her Bachelor of Science in Applied Learning and Development from the University of Texas at Austin. An experienced teacher and informal educator, Kristi most recently taught 6th grade math in Clear Creek ISD, where she also served as Girls Coach and Math Interventionist. While an undergraduate at UT, she interned at Girlstart in our After School programs and has continued to spend her summers with us as Camp Counselor and, most recently, a member of our ‘travel team,’ bringing Girlstart Summer Camp to other states.

Sharlym Aquino

Sharlym Aquino Program Coordinator

Sharlym is a recent graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and holds a Bachelor of Science in Public Relations. She is excited to join Girlstart and support their mission to empower young girls.

Brittany Dahl Program Assistant

Brittany received a B.S. in Human Development and Family Sciences with a focus in Early Childhood from The University of Texas at Austin. She is the program assistant helping and supporting our after school and public STEM events.  She enjoys spending time with her little Yorkie Chloe'.

Lauren Bussiere Manager, Corporate and Foundation Relations

Ms. Bussiere builds and maintains relationships with Girlstart’s corporate and private foundation partners: connecting donors to our programs, preparing grant proposals and comprehensive program reports, and managing the organizational development calendar. She earned her MA in Anthropology at University of California, San Diego, and a BA in Anthropology from Texas State.

Julie Shannan

Julie Shannan Deputy Director

Julie Shannan has created, launched and managed some of the most innovative and effective informal education programs for girls, parents and teachers. Ms. Shannan is a recipient of the prestigious “Austin Under 40” Award for leadership in Youth and Education. She currently serves on the Texas Girls Collaborative Project Leadership Council, serves on the Women Shaping Texas Advisory Committee for the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum, a member of NASA Human Health and Performance Center, and is an advisory board member for SciGirls, a PBS show for girls and science.

Lindsey Rhodes Purdy Development Coordinator

Lindsey graduated with a B.A. in Political Science and Gender Studies from Boise State University in 2007. Since graduating, Lindsey has worked in several capacities at a variety of non-profits, from a Life Skills and Literacy volunteer for Iraqi and Bhutanese women refugees at the International Rescue Committee, to event planning and volunteer coordinating at the Boise State University Women’s Center. Most recently, Lindsey served as an AmeriCorps VISTA for College Forward in Austin and a Training and Advocate Intern at the National Dating Abuse Helpline. Lindsey is so proud to be working for such an amazing organization whose mission is to empower and educate young girls!

Katelyn Wamsted

Katelyn Wamsted Program Director/Summer Camp Director

Katelyn Wamsted received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from Texas A&M University. For the past 7 years, Katelyn has worked and volunteered to promote teamwork and self esteem among others. Her background in marketing and passion for empowering girls brings a unique and fun perspective to Girlstart programs. Katelyn is excited to bring her logistic skills to the Girlstart team.

Elida Madrigal

Elida Madrigal Parent Liaison

Elida Madrigal holds a Bachelor of Science in Social Work, an Elementary Teaching Certificate, and her Master's of Education from Texas Christian University.She brings her experience as a Certified Bilingual Teacher as well as the Program Administrator for the Austin Capital Area Community Leadership Council. Elida has been recruiting Hispanic high school students for the Austin Capital Area Community Leadership Council for many years and was awarded the Outstanding Hispanic Woman Service Award from the Mexican American Business and Professional Women's Association.
